Summary

Teacher's SummaryThere are many non-teaching jobs in the classroom that can be done effectively by someone other than the teacher. The additional help and encouragement that volunteers offer students can sometimes make the difference between school success and failure. A cadre of well-trained and dedicated classroom volunteers allows the teacher additional time to prepare lessons and concentrate on teaching.

Volunteers should feel that they are a part of your team – a team whose major aim is to provide a quality education for all students. However, most classroom volunteers are not educators, though they may be experts in many other fields. Realizing the full potential of your classroom volunteers requires some planning, preparation and lots of recognition for their generosity and concern for students.

The Volunteer Services Resource Library contains several documents that will assist you in recruiting, retaining and recognizing volunteers in the classroom. For information on the security requirements for volunteers performing various functions, please refer to the Volunteer Management for Teachers resource.

These documents, as well as many others are available to you in the Resource Library.
