Community Involvement Awards

Recognizing Volunteers, Mentors and Business-Education Partners
Over 45,000 individual community members and 2,500 business/community organizations provide emotional and academic support to
students. Recognizing and rewarding the resulting 1.5 million hours of volunteer time is important for their continued involvement. Business
and community partnerships have been a cornerstone of Broward County Public Schools’ community involvement effort since 1983. This
event provides recognition for all district and school volunteers, mentors and business partners. The program has a broad-base of attendance
and support including 1,300 school program liaisons, parents, business partners, senior citizens, principals, teachers, District administrators,
school board members and corporate sponsors.
ACCLAIM
Nominations will be accepted February 28 - March 25, 2011
Research shows that the primary factor in school effectiveness is leadership. The ACCLAIM program identifies and recognizes principals and
assistant principals who exemplify the highest qualities of outstanding leaders. Selection is based on demonstrated achievement,
compassion, communication, and leadership. More than 450 individuals attend this program, including school administrators and teachers,
local corporations focused on education, community members, universities, school board members, District administrators, and parents.

Non-Instructional Employee of the Year
This event heralds the school system’s unsung heroes. The event showcases the often selfless service of the District’s support personnel.
Outstanding school and District based non-instructional employees in 25 different categories receive recognition. Program attendance is
approximately 250 including school board members, district administrators, union leaders, and corporate sponsors. Thanks to sponsor
underwriting, this program is free to honorees.
Teacher of the Year
Teachers are the most important influence in a child’s educational experience. This annual teacher appreciation event provides recognition for
all school level teachers of the year, eight district finalists and one district winner who will go on to participate in the Florida recognition
program. Teachers who receive national board certification, and those corporations who help support teacher education scholarships or
graduate education are also saluted. TOY is attended by 1,200 top teachers, parent leaders, principals, District administrators, school board
members and local and national companies focused on education.
