The Miami Dolphins Student of the Week Program

Dolphins player with studentBroward County Public Schools will once again be participating in the Miami Dolphins Student of the Week program. The Dolphins Student of the Week program recognizes outstanding students from 11 Miami-Dade and nine (9) Broward County schools during each Dolphins home game.

The Student of the Week program provides an excellent opportunity to motivate those students that need a little something extra to get them excited. As a part of the program, each school selects one student for each of the eight Dolphins’ home games to be recognized on the field between the first and second quarter.

The criteria for student selection is determined by each participating school (as long as it
is tied to student achievement). However, the Dolphins do not necessarily want the typical straight “A” student, but someone that has shown improvement in grades,
attendance, attitude, reading, or has excelled in community service.

The Students of the Week are treated like royalty. They stay in a special room, out of the heat and/or rain, prior to kick off. The also get to see under the stadium where it is buzzing with activity preparing for the game. Their on-field presentation is the only one of its kind. The students’ recognition takes place in between the first and second quarter on the 20-yard line of the field. Players are on the field and the stands are full with 75,000 screaming fans. From the first graders to the high school juniors and seniors, they ALL beam with pride at their accomplishment of being named the Dolphins Student of the Week.

In addition, each student of the week receives two tickets to the football game (one for them and one for their parent or legal guardian), a parking pass, a goody bag with a t-shirt, lunch and a $25 Publix gift certificate.

Because this is such a fantastic program, competition and eagerness to become a participating school has been increasing every year. Since there are only 9 available slots and in order to make selection fair, this year interested schools will submit an application consisting of 3 questions. The applications will be reviewed by the Miami Dolphins, school district representatives and Dolphins partners who will then decide which schools to award.
