Advertising Programs
The school board’s Advertising Policy governs the use of materials in schools. It was developed to limit commercially oriented ventures within classrooms while still providing opportunities for recognition of those businesses and community organizations donating goods and services to support education.
Because school attendance is mandatory, the district works hard to keep the learning environment free of commercial messages designed solely to sell services. More than a decade ago, the School Board directed the Superintendent to establish an Advertising Committee for the purpose of reviewing opportunities for generating additional revenue to the school district in a non-invasive manner.
Currently, the school system offers area businesses recognition opportunities for their help in underwriting district employee recognition events and community involvement programs, sports schedules and student publications.
Broward County’s Teacher of the Year Recognition Program was the first event program that received community support. Today all of the school board’s employee and community involvement programs
are successful because of sponsorship support. Proceeds from each program are used to secure student or classroom resources.
